Audiologists, physicians, surgeons, podiatrists, anesthetists, nurses, translators and others from all corners of the globe, depart in aircraft from California, Arizona and Nevada for their flights to historic El Fuerte in the State of Sinaloa, México. When they return to their homes early Sunday afternoon, they will have been away little more than 48 hours, but together they will have changed over 1,000 lives, and have experienced a trip of a lifetime.
Behind the Lens: Documenting the Mission
As a photographer, my goal is to capture the intersection of raw human need and extraordinary selflessness. Joining LIGA – The Flying Doctors of Mercy on their journey to El Fuerte allowed me to document a side of aviation that many never see: planes not just as a means of travel, but as a lifeline.
Moving through the clinics in Sinaloa, I witnessed the quiet intensity of surgeons at work and the profound relief on the faces of families receiving care. These photographs are more than just a record of a trip; they are a testament to what can be achieved in just 48 hours when skill, passion, and a fleet of bush planes come together for a common purpose. My hope is that these images convey the spirit of “The Flying Doctors” and the resilient beauty of the people of Mexico.
